Prophet remark row: Here’s what Farooq Abdullah says
"Prophet Mohammad is dearer to every Muslim than his life and possessions"
Srinagar: Prophet Mohammad is dearer to every Muslim than his life and possessions, said National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Friday. He was commenting upon the controversy over remarks of two ex-BJP leaders who have since been removed from party positions.
While interacting with people after offering the Friday congregational prayers at the Dargah Hazratbal in Srinagar, Farooq Abdullah said “The central human figure in Islam, Allah’s last Messenger, had a personality like none other. No one can ever be as perfect as him but we all must strive to follow his revered, holy footsteps.” PTI reported.
On the occasion, the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister, prayed for everlasting peace and prosperity in the region.
The Lok Sabha MP also prayed for the return of healthier times to the world and other bountiful provisions from the Almighty.
Meanwhile, shutdown was observed in parts of Srinagar on Friday over the controversial remarks made by two now-sacked BJP leaders.
The now-suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s and party’s former Delhi unit media chief Naveen Jindal’s comments on Prophet Mohammad led to an intense backlash in several Islamic countries and calls for a boycott of Indian products. Protests were also held in many Indian cities, while multiple FIRs have been registered against Sharma.
