Telangana Launches Statewide Crackdown on Transport Violations, Overloaded and Tax-Defaulting Vehicles to Face Seizure

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has announced a statewide enforcement drive against commercial vehicles violating transport regulations, with authorities set to take strict action against overloaded vehicles, tax defaulters, vehicles operating without valid fitness certificates, and sleeper buses found violating safety norms.
The decision was taken during a review meeting chaired by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar at the office of the Transport Commissioner in Hyderabad. Senior officials were directed to intensify inspections across the state and ensure strict enforcement of transport laws.
The minister instructed officials to seize commercial vehicles wherever serious violations are detected, stressing that there should be no leniency in cases that compromise road safety or violate statutory regulations.

As part of the special drive, transport authorities will focus on overloaded vehicles, commercial vehicles operating without valid fitness certificates, and vehicles that have failed to pay quarterly road taxes. The minister said strict enforcement is essential to reduce road accidents and ensure the safety of passengers and other road users.
Ponnam Prabhakar also warned that vehicle owners who fail to pay taxes within the stipulated time would face heavy penalties, and their vehicles could be seized in accordance with the law.
He noted that after the abolition of transport check posts, the government had promised to strengthen enforcement through better monitoring. Officials were directed to make optimal use of the available workforce and enhance surveillance and inspection activities across Telangana.
The minister also called for strict monitoring of sleeper buses, stating that operators compromising passenger safety would face stringent legal action without any relaxation.
The review meeting was attended by Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj, Transport Commissioner Ilambarthi, Additional Transport Commissioner Ramesh, and other senior officials, who discussed measures to improve compliance with transport regulations and strengthen road safety across the state.
