Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), India’s largest private-sector company, has announced a massive ₹65,000 crore investment in sustainable energy through its Compressed Biogas (CBG) project in Andhra Pradesh.

The initiative aims to establish 500 CBG plants across the state, with the first facility’s foundation stone laid in Kanigiri, Prakasam district, by state IT & Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh on Wednesday.

Boost to Clean Energy and Rural Economy

The large-scale project is expected to produce 40 lakh tonnes of clean CBG and 1.1 million metric tonnes of organic fertiliser annually. Additionally, it will generate 2.5 lakh jobs while utilising 5 lakh acres of barren and wasteland in Prakasam, Anantapur, Chittoor, and Kadapa districts.

Reliance has initially allocated ₹139 crore for the first phase, leveraging advanced technology and Napier grass for efficient bio-gas production. The company emphasized that the project will offer lease revenues to farmers and fixed prices for the cultivated grass, ensuring economic benefits for the rural sector.

Reliance’s Clean Energy Vision

This initiative is a part of RIL’s broader net-zero emissions roadmap, aligning with India’s commitment to green energy. The CBG project is expected to:

Reduce dependence on fossil fuels
Lower carbon emissions
Support agricultural waste management

With annual revenues of ₹10,00,122 crore, a cash profit of ₹1,41,969 crore, and a net profit of ₹79,020 crore (FY24), Reliance continues to reinforce its leadership in India’s energy transformation.
