A Delhi Court granted Shikhar Dhawan a divorce, acknowledging the mental suffering and cruelty inflicted by his estranged wife Ayesha Mukerji. The Family Court in Delhi’s Patiala House complex, presided over by Judge Harish Kumar, affirmed Dhawan’s claims in the divorce petition. Ayesha either didn’t contest or failed to defend the allegations.

Dhawan, who had been married to Ayesha Mukherjee since October 2012, expressed regret for not recognizing warning signs earlier this year. He emphasized personal growth and learning from experience. The court, however, did not make a ruling on permanent custody of their son.

The court did grant Dhawan visitation rights, allowing him to interact with his son via video calls both in India and Australia, where Ayesha resides. Ayesha was instructed to bring the child to India for visitation, including overnight stays with Dhawan and his family for a significant portion of school holidays. The court balanced Dhawan’s rights as a renowned cricketer and responsible father with the child’s right to spend time with his father and family.

Although not selected for India’s World Cup 2023 squad, Dhawan continued to participate in franchise-based cricket for Punjab Kings, leading them in IPL 2023.
