Sulphuric Gas Leak in Thane Chemical Factory, over 30 People Affected

Thane Municipal Corporation's RDMC chief Santosh Kadam told UNI, “The sulphuric gas leaked in the chemical unit in the district’s Ambernath MIDC area at around 1000 hours this morning.”

Thane: At least 34 people complained of breathlessness, eye irritation and nausea after a leak of sulphuric gas in Maharashtra’s Thane district on Tuesday.

Thane Municipal Corporation’s Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) chief Santosh Kadam told UNI, “The sulphuric gas leaked in the chemical unit in the district’s Ambernath MIDC area at around 1000 hours this morning.”

“People residing around the factory were affected due to the leakage,” he said, adding, those affected were rushed to the Central Hospital in Ulhasnagar town.

“As per the latest reports, the affected people are undergoing treatment but are out of danger. The local police and the firemen were rushed to the scene and the leakage has been plugged,” he said.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
