10 policemen killed, 6 injured in terrorist attack in NW Pakistan

At least 10 policemen were killed, and six others injured in a terrorist attack at a police station in the Dera Ismail Khan District of Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province early Monday morning, said police.

Islamabad: At least 10 policemen were killed, and six others injured in a terrorist attack at a police station in the Dera Ismail Khan District of Pakistan’s northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province early Monday morning, said police.

A group of unknown terrorists attacked the Chaudhwan police station in the Dera Ismail Khan district by using sniper guns, automatic rifles and hand grenades, police sources told Xinhua.

Following the attack, police and security forces rushed to the site and shifted the bodies and injured to a nearby hospital.

The deceased include six officers from the Elite Force of Police from the Swabi district, who were deployed in the area after an increase in attacks ahead of the general elections to be held on Thursday.

Before the arrival of the police and security forces, the attackers managed to escape the site to an unknown location.

Police added that all roads leading to the area have been sealed and a search operation has been launched.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
