HYDERABAD: Welfare associations in several colonies are under fire for illegally converting lands meant for public utilities into plots for commercial sale. In a wave of complaints submitted during the Hydraa Prajavani grievance meet, citizens alleged that park areas, roads, and spaces reserved for public use are being usurped and sold off by those entrusted to protect them.

Park Lands Turned into Plots

Several complaints highlighted that representatives of colony welfare associations are involved in selling off park lands by creating fake plot documents or leasing them to private individuals. Notable among them is a case from the Sayilakshmi Layout under Survey Nos. 181 and 183 within Nizampet Municipal Corporation limits, where 1800 square yards of designated park area were reportedly encroached. In the same zone, residents reported the disappearance of parks and roads spanning nearly five acres in Survey Nos. 153, 154, and 155.

Encroachment of Parks and Roads Across Zones

A 2.3-acre park area in the VNR Layout was also allegedly taken over. The problem isn’t restricted to private lands—complaints say even government and lake lands are being seized. Citizens voiced frustration that layouts clearly designating public amenities are being erased and privatized, often without any legal ownership.

Hydraa Commissioner A.V. Ranganath, who received 61 complaints in Monday’s Prajavani session, reviewed many of the cases using Google Maps. He directed officials to inspect the areas and take immediate action where necessary.

Road Blocked in Devarayamjal, Disrupting Access

In the Devarayamjal village of Medchal-Malkajgiri district, residents reported that a 40-foot road connecting the national highway to the Outer Ring Road via Kandlakoya was blocked by a newly constructed wall, halting public movement.

GHMC Park in Hayathnagar Illegally Occupied

A 2,955 square yard GHMC park in Tirumala Housing Colony, Hayathnagar, has been encroached, stalling a ₹1.2 crore park development plan. Despite the High Court ruling against the encroachers, they reportedly continue to resist eviction.

Illegal Construction on FTL and Government Lands in Bachupally

Another major complaint came from the Turk Cheruvu area in Nizampet under Bachupally Mandal, where locals alleged that both Full Tank Level (FTL) lake lands and other government properties are being unlawfully developed. Immediate intervention was requested from Hydraa authorities.
