Major Relief for Hyderabad Commuters: 6-Lane Flyover Planned to Airport
The Telangana government had earlier prepared a roadmap for extending the Hyderabad Metro Rail to Shamshabad Airport. Alongside this plan, GHMC has now proposed the construction of a large flyover to further strengthen road connectivity between the city and the airport.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has announced a major infrastructure project aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad.
Authorities have completed preparations for the construction of a new six-lane flyover that is expected to significantly reduce travel time for commuters heading to the airport.
The Telangana government had earlier prepared a roadmap for extending the Hyderabad Metro Rail to Shamshabad Airport. Alongside this plan, GHMC has now proposed the construction of a large flyover to further strengthen road connectivity between the city and the airport.
According to officials, the proposed flyover will pass through Mailardevpally, Shamshabad, and Katedan junctions, providing smoother travel not only for airport passengers but also for motorists using the nearby national highways.

The project is estimated to cost around ₹345 crore. The flyover will consist of six lanes and will be designed to support two-way traffic, helping to decongest busy roads and streamline the movement of vehicles toward the airport.
Officials say the main objective of the project is to reduce traffic congestion, shorten travel time to the airport, and lower transportation and parking costs for passengers. The flyover will be developed under the Hyderabad City Innovation and Transformative Infrastructure initiative, which aims to modernize the city’s transport network and strengthen its global connectivity.
In addition to the airport flyover, GHMC is also working on other infrastructure projects to reduce traffic pressure in different parts of the city. A steel bridge has been proposed from Panjagutta Nagarjuna Circle towards GVK Mall, while additional flyovers around KBR Park are currently in the proposal stage. Tenders for these projects are expected to be invited soon.
Authorities believe that once these projects are completed, Hyderabad residents will experience significant relief from heavy traffic, and travel to the airport could be reduced to just a few minutes, making commuting faster and more convenient.
