Southwest Monsoon Gains Strength in Telangana, Heavy Rain Alert Issued for Several Districts
Southwest Monsoon has intensified across Telangana, bringing heavy rain alerts, thunderstorms, and winds of 40-50 kmph. Hyderabad, Nirmal, Adilabad, Kamareddy, and several districts are expected to receive heavy rainfall.

Hyderabad: The Southwest Monsoon has gained momentum in Telangana after remaining sluggish for the past few days, bringing relief to people affected by heat and humidity. According to the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, weather conditions are highly favorable for the monsoon to spread across the state within the next 24 hours.

The monsoon had entered Telangana on June 8, but its progress slowed due to unexpected weather changes. However, it has now revived due to a strong trough extending from Telangana to the Gulf of Mannar through Rayalaseema and Tamil Nadu. The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and winds of 40 to 50 kmph across Telangana over the next three days.
Heavy Rain Alert for Telangana Districts
According to the Meteorological Department, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Medak, and Kamareddy districts are likely to be affected on Tuesday, with heavy rainfall expected at isolated places.
Light to moderate rainfall is expected in other parts of the state.
Rainfall Intensity to Increase on Wednesday
The impact of the monsoon is expected to intensify further on Wednesday, particularly in northern Telangana.
Heavy rainfall is forecast in:
- Adilabad
- Kumuram Bheem Asifabad
- Mancherial
- Nirmal
- Nizamabad
- Medak
- Kamareddy
Yellow Alert Issued
The Meteorological Department has already issued a Yellow Alert for several districts.
By Thursday, the rainfall intensity is expected to peak, with heavy rains likely in:
- Peddapalli
- Warangal
- Mahabubabad
- Hanumankonda
Officials said that except for Nizamabad district, the Southwest Monsoon has extended across the entire state of Telangana.
The department has predicted light to moderate rainfall till June 28.
Heavy rainfall is also expected in:
- Hyderabad
- Rangareddy
- Nalgonda
- South Telangana
- Central Telangana
on June 25 and 26.
Storm Causes Damage in Nirmal District
Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds lashed Kadem, Dasturabad, and Pembi mandals of Nirmal district on Monday.
Life was severely disrupted due to strong winds.
A newly constructed rice mill building at Nachan Yellapur in Kadem Mandal collapsed during the storm. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
Trees Uprooted on Nirmal-Mancherial Road
Hundreds of old trees were uprooted at several places on the Nirmal-Mancherial main road, causing traffic disruption for several kilometres.
A large tree fell on high-tension electricity wires near Dharmajipet village in Kadem Mandal headquarters, resulting in traffic congestion on both sides of the road.
An emergency ambulance carrying a critically ill patient was also trapped in the traffic jam.
Local villagers responded immediately and, with the help of a JCB, removed fallen trees and branches to clear the road and allow the ambulance to proceed.
Passengers appreciated the timely assistance provided by the villagers.
Heavy Rain Lashes Hyderabad, IT Corridor Records Highest Rainfall
Several areas of Hyderabad’s Old City received heavy rainfall on Monday night.
Areas affected included:
- Shah Ali Banda
- Charminar
- Madina
- Dabirpura
- Bahadurpura
- Kala Pattar
Rainwater inundated roads and streets, making many roads resemble ponds.
Highest Rainfall Recorded in GHMC Limits
Within the GHMC limits, the highest rainfall was recorded in the Serilingampally Circle.

Due to rainfall exceeding 100 mm in several locations, drainage systems overflowed, causing inconvenience to IT employees and motorists.

Traditional Rain Ritual Held in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri
In Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, villagers conducted the traditional Kappatalli Kavadi procession seeking abundant rainfall and a good crop harvest.
Women and farmers participated in large numbers and offered special prayers to frogs as part of the ritual.
People from surrounding villages gathered to witness the traditional ceremony, which reflects centuries-old customs associated with praying for rain.
Heavy Rain Alert for Andhra Pradesh
The Meteorological Department has also issued an alert for neighboring Andhra Pradesh.
According to the Amaravati Meteorological Centre, heavy rainfall is expected as the trough continues from Telangana to the Gulf of Mannar.

- Eluru
- Krishna
- NTR district
Light to moderate rainfall is expected in:
- Palnadu
- Nellore
Rainfall is also likely in:
- Kurnool
- Nandyal
- Chittoor
- Tirupati
Heavy rain lashed Markapuram town and nearby areas in Prakasam district on Monday evening, causing waterlogging on roads after nearly an hour of continuous rain.
Moderate to heavy rains are expected across North Coastal Andhra, Coastal Andhra, and Rayalaseema till June 26.
Authorities have advised people not to stand under trees, near electric poles, or beneath heavy hoardings during thunderstorms and lightning.
