Singareni Team Wins Global Glory, Secures First Prize in International Mines Rescue Competition

Adding to the recognition, Dr. Rajeshwar from SCCL was invited by international organizers to serve as a judge in the First Aid category.

In a proud moment for India’s mining sector, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has achieved a remarkable international feat by winning First Prize in the Underground Mines Rescue Category at the prestigious International Mines Rescue Competitions held in Zambia.

The competition, conducted from April 30 to May 5, witnessed participation from top rescue teams representing countries such as India, China, Colombia, Canada, Australia, Poland, and host nation Zambia. From India, teams from Coal India Limited and SCCL competed at the global stage.

The underground rescue event evaluated teams across multiple parameters including firefighting, rescue operations, and technical support. The Singareni team excelled in all categories, demonstrating exceptional skill, discipline, and coordination to secure the top position.

One of the highlights of the competition was a 90-minute technical test conducted at the Mopani Central Training Centre in Mufulira, where team member CH. Sai Krishna completed a complex task in just 52 minutes, showcasing outstanding technical expertise.

In another challenging event at the West Portal Mine, the team was tasked with rescuing two individuals trapped 700 meters underground. Despite being given two hours, the Singareni team successfully completed the entire rescue operation in just 52 minutes. The operation involved critical tasks such as installing equipment, shutting down a substation, locating victims using mine plans, reviving an unconscious individual, and safely transporting the injured to the surface—all under the supervision of international judges.

Congratulating the team, SCCL Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyothi described the achievement as a matter of immense pride, highlighting that Singareni has regained international recognition after nearly two decades.

The team was trained under the leadership of General Manager (Rescue) Srinivas Reddy at the Ramagundam Mines Rescue Station. Team members included G. Pramod Kumar, B. Nithin Kumar, N. Bhanu Prasad, A. Shyam Kumar, R. Srikanth, CH. Sai Krishna, and translator G. Rajender Reddy.

Adding to the recognition, Dr. Rajeshwar from SCCL was invited by international organizers to serve as a judge in the First Aid category.

The achievement has been widely celebrated across social media platforms, with employees and officials praising the team for bringing global recognition back to Singareni.
