During the review meeting, officials informed that discussions with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for funding the Phase-1 project worth around Rs 7,055 crore were successful.
The government plans to take up the project with external financial support for the large-scale rejuvenation of the Musi River.
First Phase Works to Begin on 5-Km Stretch
The Cabinet Sub-Committee instructed officials to immediately begin the first phase works on the initial 5-kilometre stretch between Himayat Sagar and Bapughat, where there are reportedly no habitations.
The total stretch under this phase covers 21 kilometres from:
- Himayat Sagar
- Osman Sagar
- Bapughat
Officials were instructed to prioritize the works in non-residential zones first.
Rubber Dam Technology Examined to Improve Water Storage and Tourism
Ministers reviewed “Rubber Dam” models based on Obermeyer Spillway Gate Technology aimed at increasing water storage capacity in the river and boosting tourism activities.
The project is also expected to improve the ecological and environmental conditions of Hyderabad city.
Telangana Sets December 2027 Deadline for Musi River Rejuvenation Project
The government has set a target to complete all permissions by August 2026 and begin works immediately afterward.
Officials were directed to complete the massive Musi River Rejuvenation Project by December 2027.
Major Components of Musi River Rejuvenation Project
The review meeting discussed several major infrastructure works under the project, including:
- Removal of waste from the river and riverbed profiling
- Construction of retaining walls and roads on both sides for flood control
- Development of major sewage canals, nalas, and barrages
- Construction of a 55-kilometre elevated corridor from Narsingi to Gowrelly
The committee instructed officials to maintain quality standards with technical cooperation from institutions such as IIT and JNTU.
