Rat Poison Detected in Bodies of Mumbai Family
The deceased were identified as:
- Abdullah Dokadia (44)
- Nasreen Dokadia (35)
- Ayesha Dokadia (16)
- Zainab Dokadia (13)
Forensic experts found traces of zinc phosphide in their bodies. Zinc phosphide is widely used to kill rats.
Officials clarified that the family did not die because of watermelon adulteration.
Police Investigating Whether Rat Poison Was Accidental or Intentional
Investigators are now trying to determine whether the rat poison accidentally entered the food through the watermelon or was intentionally mixed.
Officials said the exact circumstances remain unclear.
“So far, we have not come up with any concrete reason why the family would have committed such a drastic act,” an official said.
JJ Marg Police have launched an investigation into the case.
Police officials said statements of relatives and neighbors of the deceased family have already been recorded.
Family Fell Sick After Private Gathering in South Mumbai
According to police, the Dokadia family had organized a small family gathering at their residence in south Mumbai on the night of April 25.
After the guests left, family members reportedly ate watermelon pieces together.
During the early hours of the next morning, all four family members complained of severe vomiting and diarrhoea.
They were immediately shifted to a local hospital for treatment.
However, Abdullah Dokadia, Nasreen, Ayesha, and Zainab died while undergoing treatment.
Forensic Experts Rule Out Watermelon Adulteration
Officials emphasized that forensic examination did not establish adulterated watermelon as the cause of death.
The focus of the investigation has now shifted toward how zinc phosphide entered the bodies of the deceased family members.
The current status of the case remains under active investigation by JJ Marg Police.
