Vijay Adds Personal Remarks During Official Oath
During the ceremony, C Joseph Vijay said:
“I, C Joseph Vijay, will stay true to the legally established Constitution of India…. as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, I will work honestly and dedicatedly to fulfil my responsibilities. I will adhere to the rule of law, work with honesty, remove hate, and will work honestly for all sections of the people. This I swear on god and take the oath.”
As he took the oath on God, Vijay raised his right hand and clenched his fist.
Governor Arlekar Corrects Vijay During Oath Ceremony
Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar immediately intervened and instructed Vijay to read only the official oath from the paper provided to him.
Vijay then sought clarification from the Governor and continued reading the written oath.
The unexpected moment triggered loud cheers from party workers.
A Rajmohan, who was standing behind Vijay, clapped in celebration, while supporters erupted in joy.
Vijay’s parents, filmmaker S A Chandrasekhar and Shoba, became emotional during the ceremony.
Vijay Announces Major Welfare Decisions After Taking Oath
Shortly after ministers were sworn in, C Joseph Vijay announced three key initiatives:
- 200 units of free electricity for domestic consumers using up to 500 units per billing cycle
- Formation of a women’s protection force
- Creation of an anti-narcotic task force to eradicate drugs
After signing his first official documents as Chief Minister, Vijay personally helped officials move a table from the stage.
He also took a group selfie with Governor Arlekar, Rahul Gandhi, other dignitaries on the dais, and members of the audience.
Live Screening Arranged Across Chennai
The Greater Chennai Corporation arranged live screenings of Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony on LED screens at more than 20 locations across Chennai.
The arrangement allowed members of the public to watch the event live across the city.
