Chennai: C. Joseph Vijay on Monday met his predecessor and DMK President M. K. Stalin at his Alwarpet residence in Chennai after attending the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected MLAs in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. The politically significant meeting comes days after Vijay assumed office as Chief Minister following TVK’s historic electoral debut and support extended by former allies of the DMK-led alliance.

Vijay Meets MK Stalin at Alwarpet Residence
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President C. Joseph Vijay met DMK President M.K. Stalin at his Alwarpet residence in Chennai on Monday.
The meeting took place after Vijay attended the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected MLAs in the Assembly.
The development has attracted major political attention because parties that were earlier part of the DMK-led alliance played an important role in enabling the TVK government to assume office.
TVK Emerged as Single Largest Party in Tamil Nadu Elections
In the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, TVK emerged as the single largest party by winning 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly.
However, the party fell short of the 118-seat majority mark required to form the government independently.
Following the election results, Vijay initiated discussions with parties that were earlier aligned with the DMK-led alliance to secure outside support for government formation.
Congress, Left Parties, VCK and IUML Extend Support to TVK
After negotiations, the Congress agreed to support the TVK government and formally distanced itself from the DMK-led alliance.
The CPI, CPI-M, VCK, and IUML also announced unconditional outside support to the Vijay-led government.
With the support of these parties, TVK crossed the majority mark in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, paving the way for Vijay to become Chief Minister.
Vijay Sworn In as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on May 10
C. Joseph Vijay was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10 during a grand ceremony held in Chennai.
Soon after taking charge, Vijay signed files related to three major welfare initiatives, including:
- Free electricity benefits for households
- Special women’s safety measures
- Anti-drug enforcement initiatives across districts
The Chief Minister also chaired meetings with senior officials regarding law and order and the administrative priorities of the new government.
Vijay Pays Tribute to Periyar, Meets K. Veeramani
After assuming office, Vijay paid tribute at the memorial of social reformer Periyar, whom he has often described as one of his ideological inspirations.
He also met K. Veeramani and received his greetings.

Political activity intensified in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Monday with the commencement of the first session of the newly constituted House.
