Following the unexpected crossvoting, the strength of the TVK government in the Assembly reportedly increased to 144 members, triggering sharp protests and allegations of horse trading from opposition parties.

Opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin accused the government of surviving on “borrowed support” and alleged that attempts were being made to save the government by breaking the AIADMK.

25 AIADMK Rebel MLAs Support TVK Government

During the floor test in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, 25 rebel AIADMK MLAs voted in favour of the ruling TVK government.

Before the floor test, the TVK government reportedly had the support of only 105 members. However, support from rebel legislators pushed the government’s strength to 144 members, giving it a clear majority in the Assembly.

The cross-voting created a major political stir in Tamil Nadu.

Senior AIADMK Leaders Vote in Favour of Government

Several senior AIADMK leaders also voted in support of the government during the floor test.

The leaders included:

  • S. P. Velumani
  • C. V. Shanmugam

Their decision to support the government intensified political tensions within the AIADMK camp.

Opposition Alleges Horse Trading

Opposition parties strongly protested against the cross-voting and accused the government of political bargaining and horse trading.

Udhayanidhi Stalin stated that the TVK government was functioning with “borrowed support” and alleged that efforts were being made to weaken the AIADMK to retain power.

The opposition created uproar inside the Assembly over the developments.

AMMK MLA S. Kamaraj Also Supports Government

Meanwhile, S. Kamaraj, MLA from Mannargudi belonging to Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, also voted in support of the government.

The development gained attention because party chief T. T. V. Dhinakaran had expelled S. Kamaraj from the party just a day earlier.

AIADMK, PMK and BJP Voting Details

According to Assembly voting details:

  • Edappadi K. Palaniswami and 21 AIADMK MLAs voted against the government.
  • Four members of Pattali Makkal Katchi did not participate in voting.
  • The lone MLA of Bharatiya Janata Party also stayed away from the voting process.

DMK and DMDK Walk Out of Assembly

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and its ally Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam staged a walkout from the Assembly.

The parties accused the government of damaging democratic values through political manipulation.

Joseph Vijay Responds to Horse Trading Allegations

After the floor test, Chief Minister Joseph Vijay reacted sarcastically to allegations of horse trading.

He said his government would work with the “speed of horses” in development activities rather than engaging in secret political deals.
