Palamuru-Rangareddy Project Will Irrigate 12.30 Lakh Acres: Uttam Kumar Reddy

Telangana Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy says Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme will provide water to 1,226 villages and 12.30 lakh acres.

Hyderabad: Telangana Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the State Government is giving top priority to completing pending irrigation projects in the Palamuru region, including the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. He stated that the project will provide irrigation and drinking water to 12.30 lakh acres and 1,226 villages across multiple districts. The Minister also said the claim that 90 percent of the Palamuru-Rangareddy project works were completed during the previous BRS government is “completely false.”

Special Review Meeting Held at Telangana Secretariat

On Tuesday afternoon, Uttam Kumar Reddy, along with Ministers Jupally Krishna Rao and Vakiti Srihari, conducted a special review meeting on irrigation projects in the undivided Mahabubnagar district at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat.

Government Committed to Completing Palamuru Projects

Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Congress government is committed to correcting the injustice done to the Palamuru region during the 10-year BRS rule.

He stated that the government intends to complete pending irrigation projects in Palamuru on par with:

  • Devadula Project
  • SLBC Project
  • Seetharama Project

The Minister said another special review meeting would be conducted within 15 days to speed up pending works and instructed officials to prepare comprehensive reports on project progress.

Joorala Project Desiltation Planned Under DRIP

Referring to the Joorala Project, the Minister said heavy silt accumulation had reduced water storage capacity to below 8 TMC.

He stated that proposals have been sent under the DRIP (Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project) for desiltation works to improve water storage capacity.

According to the Minister, the DRIP works will:

  • Increase reservoir storage capacity
  • Improve reservoir safety
  • Improve maintenance systems

He also instructed officials to take up desiltation works in minor irrigation tanks before the monsoon season.

Uttam Kumar Reddy Criticises BRS Over Palamuru-Rangareddy Project

The Minister criticised BRS leaders for claiming that 90 percent of the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme works had been completed.

He said:

“The campaign is completely false and intended to mislead people.”

Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that the BRS government caused serious damage by shifting the project offtake from Joorala to the Srisailam Reservoir.

He also accused the previous government of calling tenders for the distributor network without completing land acquisition.

1,226 Villages to Get Drinking Water

The Minister said the State Government aims to complete the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme on priority basis.

In the first phase, drinking water will be provided to 1,226 villages in:

  • Nagarkurnool
  • Mahabubnagar
  • Narayanpet
  • Vikarabad
  • Rangareddy
  • Nalgonda districts

He added that the government aims to provide irrigation water to 12.30 lakh acres through the Palamuru-Rangareddy project and related irrigation schemes.

Telangana Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy said the State Government is committed to completing pending irrigation projects in the Palamuru region, including the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme.
