Cyber Crime Inspector Trapped by ACB in Bribery Case, Rs 13 Lakh Cash and Gold Seized in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: In a major anti-corruption operation, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) trapped and arrested Bathula Mahendar, an Inspector of Police attached to the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau, on charges of criminal misconduct and accepting bribes. The ACB alleged that the officer demanded Rs.9 lakh from a complainant to avoid implicating the complainant’s family members and friends in a cyber fraud case. During searches conducted after the arrest, officials seized Rs.13 lakh in unaccounted cash, gold ornaments and property-related documents.

The arrested officer is set to be produced before the Special Court for ACB Cases at Nampally for judicial remand. Further investigation is underway.

ACB Traps Cyber Crime Inspector in Bribery Case

According to ACB officials, Bathula Mahendar, Inspector of Police attached to the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau, allegedly demanded Rs.9 lakh from a complainant.

Investigators said the money was sought in exchange for not implicating the complainant’s family members and friends in a cyber fraud case registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station of the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau.

Officials stated that the accused officer had already accepted Rs.5 lakh as part payment.

Officer Allegedly Demanded Remaining Rs.4 Lakh

The ACB said that on Friday, the officer allegedly demanded the remaining Rs.4 lakh from the complainant.

According to investigators, he also threatened the complainant at his office while demanding the balance amount.

Acting on the complaint, the Central Investigation Unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau conducted an operation and apprehended the officer.

Rs.13 Lakh Cash, Gold and Documents Seized

Following the arrest, ACB officials conducted searches at the residence of Bathula Mahendar.

During the searches, officials seized:

  • Rs.13 lakh in unaccounted cash
  • Gold ornaments
  • Property-related documents

Authorities said further verification is being carried out to determine whether the seized assets are disproportionate to the officer’s known sources of income.

Investigation Continues

The Anti-Corruption Bureau stated that the arrested officer will be produced before the Special Court for ACB Cases at Nampally for judicial remand.

Officials also confirmed that the identity of the complainant has been withheld for security reasons.

The investigation into the case is continuing.
