Hyderabad POCSO Court Sentences 70-Year-Old Man to 20 Years in Child Sexual Assault Case

Hyderabad POCSO Court sentenced 70-year-old Mohammed Zameeruddin to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in a child sexual assault case investigated by Santoshnagar Police. The court also imposed a Rs. 5,000 fine.

A Hyderabad POCSO Court has sentenced a 70-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl within the limits of Santoshnagar Police Station. The convicted man, Mohammed Zameeruddin, was found guilty under Section 376(2)(f) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000. Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar praised the investigation team and prosecutors for securing the conviction.

Court Convicts Mohammed Zameeruddin in POCSO Case

The judgment was delivered by M. Archana Kumari, XII Additional Sessions Judge-cum-Sessions Judge for Trial and Disposal of POCSO Act Cases, Hyderabad.

The court convicted Mohammed Zameeruddin (70) under Section 376(2)(f) of the IPC and relevant provisions of the POCSO Act for sexually assaulting a minor girl.

Following the conviction, the court sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.

Incident Took Place in Gulshan Iqbal Colony

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on May 11, 2023, within the jurisdiction of Santoshnagar Police Station.

The minor girl had reportedly visited a stationery-cum-kirana shop in Gulshan Iqbal Colony to purchase a milk packet.

The prosecution stated that the accused allegedly lured the child into the shop, sexually assaulted her, showed her obscene material and threatened her with dire consequences.

Child Informed Family, Police Registered Case

The traumatized child later disclosed the incident to her family members.

Based on the information provided by the victim, a criminal case was registered and a thorough investigation was carried out by Santoshnagar Police.

The investigation resulted in the filing of charges against the accused and subsequent trial before the Hyderabad POCSO Court.

Court Awards 20-Year Jail Term and Rs. 5,000 Fine

After completion of the trial and examination of evidence, the court sentenced Mohammed Zameeruddin to:

  • 20 years of rigorous imprisonment
  • Fine of Rs. 5,000

The court further ordered that if the fine is not paid, the convict will undergo an additional six months of simple imprisonment.

V.C. Sajjanar Appreciates Investigation Team

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar commended the investigation conducted by P. Shiva Chandra, who was the Inspector of Santoshnagar Police Station at the time of investigation and is currently serving as Inspector of Cybercrime, Hyderabad.

The Commissioner also conveyed special appreciation to:

  • J. Rama Krishna, Additional Public Prosecutor

for their effective presentation of evidence before the court.

Hyderabad Police Reiterate Commitment to Child Protection

While appreciating the investigation officers and prosecutors for securing the conviction, Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said that crimes against children would be pursued relentlessly and offenders would be brought to justice.

He stated that Hyderabad Police remain committed to protecting children and ensuring strict action against those involved in such offences.
