On Friday, Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy reviewed the construction of Indiramma Houses within the CURE limits during a meeting with officials at his office in the Secretariat.
During the review, he said that administrative approvals had already been granted for:
- 1 lakh houses within CURE limits for the financial year 2026-27

Houses to Be Built Near Existing Residential Areas
Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said the government would ensure that poor families do not face any difficulties in earning their livelihoods. Taking each Assembly constituency as a unit, the government plans to construct houses close to the areas where poor people are currently living.
He announced that 1 lakh houses would be built on government lands worth crores of rupees and that women from poor households would be made owners of their share in those properties.
Minister Criticizes Previous Government’s Housing Approach
The minister criticized the previous government, alleging that it constructed Double Bedroom Houses in a half-hearted manner at locations 30 to 40 kilometers away from Hyderabad city without considering the living conditions and livelihood requirements of poor families.
He said previous rulers ignored the fact that while housing is essential for poor families, their livelihoods are equally important.
According to the minister, many poor families who depend on daily wage work, small businesses, and employment opportunities could not move into houses built on the city outskirts. He stated that the distance from employment opportunities, along with challenges related to children’s education, healthcare facilities, and transportation, discouraged many families from residing in those houses.
As a result, he said, many of those housing units remained vacant and unused.
Valuable Government Land to Be Used for Welfare of the Poor
The minister said the government would not repeat such mistakes and would instead construct houses in the areas where poor families are already living so that they can lead dignified lives.
He stated that valuable government lands would be utilized for the welfare of poor people and that the government was launching the construction of 1 lakh houses under this initiative.
Women to Get Ownership Rights Under Housing Scheme
Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy emphasized that ownership rights would be provided to women from poor families.
He said this measure would strengthen their economic and social security. According to the minister, owning a house provides a strong foundation for women’s empowerment, family stability, and the development of future generations.

The minister instructed officials to prepare house designs that are convenient and suitable for beneficiaries.
He directed that each house should have a minimum built-up area of 400 square feet.
