Ebola Alert in Hyderabad: Two Suspected Cases at Gandhi Hospital, Sudan National Under Observation

The number of suspected Ebola cases at Gandhi Hospital, Hyderabad, has risen to two, prompting the Medical and Health Department to remain on high alert. A 36-year-old Sudanese national, Mohammed Yagouch Ahmed, who recently arrived in Hyderabad from Sudan, is being treated in a special isolation ward after showing suspected symptoms of the Ebola virus. His blood samples have been sent for testing, while another person who came into close contact with him is also under medical observation. Airport screening has been further tightened as authorities closely monitor the situation.

Sudan National Shifted to Isolation Ward at Gandhi Hospital

According to doctors, Mohammed Yagouch Ahmed (36), a Sudanese national, recently arrived in Hyderabad.

During routine medical examination and screening conducted at Shamshabad Airport, he was found to have suspected symptoms of the Ebola virus. Following the screening, he was immediately shifted to Gandhi Hospital and admitted to a separate isolation ward for treatment and monitoring.

Officials said he is studying at an educational institution in Ahmednagar.

Second Suspected Ebola Case Under Observation

Hospital authorities stated that another person who came into close contact with Mohammed Yagouch Ahmed is also being kept under observation.

The individual is undergoing medical examination and monitoring. Both persons are currently being treated under the supervision of doctors at Gandhi Hospital.

Samples Sent for Testing

Speaking on the development, Dr. Sunil Kumar, Ebola Nodal Officer at Gandhi Hospital, said that blood samples collected from the patient have been sent to the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, for testing.

He further stated that the samples will subsequently be transferred to the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune.

According to Dr. Sunil Kumar, the final test results are expected within one week.

20-Bed Isolation Ward Kept Ready

Officials said a 20-bed isolation ward has been kept ready at Gandhi Hospital until confirmation regarding the Ebola virus is received.

The Medical and Health Department has advised the public not to panic but urged people to seek medical attention immediately if they experience symptoms such as:

  • Fever
  • Severe fatigue
  • Bleeding

Airport Screening Tightened Amid Ebola Concerns

With the Ebola virus continuing to spread in a Central African country, authorities have intensified surveillance of international travellers arriving in Telangana.

The State Medical and Health Department is maintaining close watch over the situation and has further tightened screening procedures for passengers arriving from abroad.

At present:

  • Two suspected Ebola cases are under observation at Gandhi Hospital.
  • Mohammed Yagouch Ahmed (36), a Sudanese national, is being treated in an isolation ward.
  • Another close contact is also under medical observation.
