The conference, organised jointly by the Institute of Liver and Gastro Sciences at KIMS Hospitals, Seethammadhara, the Association of Physicians of India (API), the Indian Medical Association (IMA), and the Vizag Gut Club, concluded successfully in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.

Visakhapatnam: Gastrointestinal and liver-related disorders are witnessing a significant rise due to changing lifestyles, said Dr. Chalapathi Rao Achanta, Senior Consultant Gastroenterologist and Chairman of the Organising Committee of the national medical conference, Gastro Update – 4th Edition.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Achanta highlighted the growing burden of gastrointestinal and liver diseases across the country and stressed the importance of continuous medical education in improving patient care. He noted that academic discussions on complex clinical cases enhance doctors’ diagnostic capabilities and help them provide more effective treatment to patients.

“Such conferences are extremely valuable for young doctors as they offer opportunities to learn from challenging real-life cases and gain exposure to emerging technologies and advanced treatment modalities in gastroenterology and hepatology,” he said.

The national-level conference brought together leading gastroenterologists, physicians, postgraduate students, and healthcare professionals from across India. Experts from New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, Ahmedabad, and other cities participated in the scientific sessions.

Participants discussed a wide range of complex medical conditions, including dysphagia (difficulty in swallowing), treatment-resistant indigestion, recurrent jaundice, chronic diarrhoea, liver cancers, complicated gastroesophageal reflux disease, recurrent perianal fistula, severe pancreatitis, and recurrent gastrointestinal bleeding.

A major highlight of the conference was the interactive case-based sessions featuring real patient cases. National and regional experts jointly analysed these cases and shared insights into modern diagnostic techniques and evidence-based treatment strategies.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Abhinay, CEO of KIMS Group of Hospitals, and Dr. Nagesh, Regional CEO, thanked the faculty members, delegates, and partner organisations for contributing to the success of the event.

They observed that the enthusiastic response to the conference reflects Visakhapatnam’s growing stature as an important centre for medical education, research, and advanced training in the fields of gastroenterology and liver sciences.

The organisers said the conference served as a valuable platform for knowledge-sharing and professional development, ultimately contributing to improved healthcare outcomes for patients suffering from gastrointestinal and liver disorders.
