Centre Imposes Fresh Export Duty on Petrol, Diesel and ATF; Domestic Fuel Prices Remain Unchanged

The Centre has imposed a Special Additional Excise Duty on fuel exports, charging ₹4 per litre on petrol, ₹8.5 on diesel, and ₹7.5 on ATF. Domestic fuel prices remain unchanged.

The Central Government has imposed a Special Additional Excise Duty on the export of refined petroleum products, levying ₹4 per litre on petrol, ₹8.5 per litre on diesel, and ₹7.5 per litre on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF). The move is aimed at regulating outbound shipments of refined petroleum products while ensuring adequate domestic availability. The government also clarified that there is no change in the existing excise duty on petrol and diesel meant for domestic consumption, meaning retail fuel prices within India remain unaffected.

Special Additional Excise Duty on Fuel Exports

The government has introduced a Special Additional Excise Duty on fuel exports with the following rates:

  • Petrol: ₹4 per litre
  • Diesel: ₹8.5 per litre
  • Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF): ₹7.5 per litre

According to the announcement, the duty has been imposed to regulate the export of refined petroleum products and ensure sufficient fuel availability within the country.

Export Duty Exemption Extended to More Countries

The government has extended the exemption from these export duties to:

  • Mauritius
  • Maldives

These countries have now been added to the list of nations already enjoying exemptions, which includes:

  • Nepal
  • Bhutan
  • Bangladesh
  • Sri Lanka

No Change in Domestic Petrol and Diesel Excise Duty

The government has clarified that the latest decision applies only to fuel exports.

There has been no change in the current excise duty rates on petrol and diesel meant for domestic consumption.

As a result, retail fuel prices for consumers in India remain unaffected by the new export duty.

Objective of the Decision

According to the government, the decision has been taken to:

  • Regulate outbound shipments of refined petroleum products.
  • Ensure adequate domestic fuel availability.
  • Maintain uninterrupted fuel supplies within the country.

The Central Government has imposed a Special Additional Excise Duty of ₹4 per litre on petrol exports, ₹8.5 per litre on diesel exports, and ₹7.5 per litre on ATF exports to regulate fuel exports and ensure adequate domestic availability.
