Free Aadhaar Email Update from July 1
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has decided to make linking or updating an email address with Aadhaar free of cost.
Earlier, users had to pay Rs 75 for the service.
Key details:
- The free facility will be available from July 1 to December 31.
- The benefit is available only through the new Aadhaar app.
- Those using any other method to update their email with Aadhaar will have to pay the prescribed fee.
Passport Fees Increased After 14 Years
The Central Government has revised passport fees with effect from July 1, marking the first revision in 14 years.
The revised charges are:
- 36-page passport: Increased from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500.
- Tatkal passport: Increased from Rs 3,500 to Rs 5,000.
The report also states that other passport-related fees have been revised.
Railways Double Fine for Ticketless Travel
The Indian Railways has doubled the penalty for travelling without a ticket.
The revised rules are:
- Earlier penalty: Rs 250
- New penalty: Rs 500
The change has been made under the Jan Vishwas (Amendment) Act, 2026, which amended Section 137 and Section 138 of the Railways Act, 1989.
However, there is no change in the punishment imposed by courts for ticketless travel. Offenders can still face:
- Up to six months’ imprisonment
- Fine of Rs 1,000
SBI and HDFC Bank Revise Credit Card Benefits
The State Bank of India (SBI) has revised the reward rules for PhonePe SBI Credit Card.
HDFC Bank has also made changes to the Regalia Gold Credit Card.
Under the revised rules, customers must spend Rs 60,000 during the previous three months to become eligible for domestic airport lounge access.
Fuel Sale Restrictions to End from July 1
During the West Asia crisis, the Central Government had imposed restrictions on fuel usage.
The restrictions included:
- A maximum of 200 litres of fuel per day for heavy vehicles.
- Restrictions on fuel supplied for industrial and commercial purposes.
According to the report, these restrictions will be removed from July 1.
LPG, CNG, PNG and ATF Prices to Be Revised
The Central Government is expected to announce revised prices for:
- LPG
- CNG
- PNG
- ATF (Aviation Turbine Fuel)
The new rates will be announced on July 1 and implemented accordingly.
The report notes that prices have been increasing for some time. However, it says there is a possibility that the Centre may take a decision to reduce prices this time.
Tata Motors and Kia Motors to Increase Vehicle Prices
Several automobile manufacturers will increase vehicle prices from July 1.
The announced hikes are:
- Tata Motors passenger vehicles: 1.5% increase
- Tata Motors commercial vehicles: 2.5% increase
- Kia Motors vehicles: 2% increase
