Hyderabad: Maheshwaram Police have arrested members of an alleged chain-snatching gang accused of stealing gold chains and cash during a BRS membership registration programme attended by BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao at PSY Convention Hall in Maheshwaram on June 27. Police recovered 15 tolas of gold and ₹2,55,000 in cash from the accused. Three accused have been remanded to judicial custody, while two others are absconding.

Chain Snatching During BRS Programme in Maheshwaram
Addressing the media, Narayana Reddy said the thefts took place during the SIR and membership registration programme held at PSY Convention Hall on June 27, where BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao participated.
According to the police, the venue was crowded, and the accused allegedly targeted BRS leaders and members of the public by stealing gold chains and cash during the rush.
Five Accused Identified
Police identified the accused as:
- Kamble Kailas
- Adhakade Ravi
- Kamble Shyamsundar
- Kamble Arun
- Mohd Ashad
The DCP said the accused are residents of Mangal Basti and Habib Nagar in Hyderabad and allegedly operated in different gangs.
According to police, they targeted public meetings of political leaders and allegedly stole gold chains and cash by taking advantage of the crowd while people pushed forward to reach the stage.
Police also stated that several criminal cases had previously been registered against the accused at various police stations.
Gold and Cash Recovered
Police recovered the following from the gang:
- 15 tolas of gold
- ₹2,55,000 in cash
According to the DCP:
- Three accused have been remanded.
- Two accused are absconding.
The investigation is continuing to trace the remaining accused.
DCP Advises Installation of CCTV Cameras
Narayana Reddy said the accused were arrested quickly following directions from Tarun Joshi.
He appealed to the public to install CCTV cameras in front of their homes.
He also encouraged villages to install CCTV cameras under the “Nenu Saitham” programme and appreciated the Maheshwaram Police team for solving the case promptly.
