Hyderabad: The body of 18-year-old Manideep Reddy Gujja, a student from Hyderabad who had been missing in Finland since May, has been recovered from the sea in Helsinki. The information was conveyed to the family by the Indian Embassy in Finland on July 10, after local authorities informed the embassy about the recovery. The family’s lawyer, KLB Kumar, alleged that the case was not properly investigated and raised doubts over the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.

Indian Embassy Informs Family About Body Recovery
According to the family, the Indian Embassy in Finland informed them on July 10 that Finnish authorities had recovered Manideep’s body from the sea in Helsinki.
The development comes nearly two months after the Hyderabad student went missing.
Student Was Pursuing Engineering in Finland
Manideep Reddy Gujja, aged 18, had moved to Finland in 2025 to pursue a Bachelor’s programme at Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology (LUT University), Lahti Campus.
He was residing at Ritaniemenkatu, Lahti during his studies.
Last Seen at Shopping Mall in Helsinki
According to Finnish police, the last confirmed sighting of Manideep was at a shopping mall in Helsinki, approximately 100 kilometres from his residence in Lahti.
Police recovered CCTV footage showing him walking through the shopping mall aisles on May 5. He was not seen again after that.
Parents Had Approached Telangana High Court
Following his disappearance, his parents, Mamata Reddy and G. Muthyam Reddy, approached the Telangana High Court, seeking directions to authorities to trace their son.
Mystery Journey Before Disappearance
According to his parents, Manideep called them on May 5 requesting Rs. 5,000.
His mother said she immediately transferred the money.
According to Finnish police, Manideep used about Rs. 2,500 to travel more than 100 kilometres by bus from Lahti to Helsinki.
The reason for the journey remains unknown.
In Helsinki, he was reportedly seen eating at an eatery before entering a shopping mall. Shortly afterwards, his mobile phone became unreachable.
Earlier, his mother had said:
“We don’t know what happened to him.”
She also said:
“We thought that he would come back and do well in a good job.”
Family’s Lawyer Raises Doubts
The family’s lawyer, KLB Kumar, alleged that the case was not properly investigated.
He questioned the recovery of the body after two months and said:
“We have many doubts. After two months, the body has been recovered. We believe that it is a suspicious death.”
According to the lawyer, Manideep’s parents believe that something untoward happened to him on May 5, the day he went missing.
Demand for Fresh Investigation
KLB Kumar urged the Union Government to assist the parents in travelling to Finland so they can see their son’s body and make further enquiries.
He also demanded a thorough investigation by the Finnish authorities.
The lawyer said:
“We demand that the death should be investigated properly. Finnish authorities should investigate the circumstances under which the boy disappeared and how the death occurred.”
