Telangana Assembly Committees Hold First Meeting, Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar Calls for Impartial and Effective Functioning

Hyderabad: The inaugural meetings of the Telangana Legislative Assembly Government Assurances Committee (Assurance), Rules Committee, and Ethics Committee were held on Tuesday at the Speaker’s Chamber in the Telangana Legislative Assembly building. The meetings were attended by Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar and Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu, who emphasized the importance of transparent, impartial, and effective functioning of the Assembly committees.

The meeting of the Government Assurances Committee was attended by:

The Rules Committee, chaired by Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, was attended by:

Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar Highlights Importance of Assembly Committees

Speaking on the occasion, Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar congratulated Government Assurances Committee Chairman Patolla Sanjeeva Reddy and Ethics Committee Chairman Revuri Prakash Reddy.

He said parliamentary committees play a vital role in the democratic system.

The Speaker stated that the Government Assurances Committee is responsible for ensuring that assurances given by the government during Assembly sessions are implemented and advised the committee to perform this responsibility effectively.

He said the Rules Committee plays a crucial role in ensuring the orderly, efficient, and democratic functioning of the Legislative Assembly.

According to him, the Legislative Assembly is judged not only by the laws it passes but also by the conduct, commitment, and behaviour of its members.

He said the Ethics Committee has evolved across parliamentary democracies worldwide to protect public trust and strengthen confidence in democratic institutions.

He urged all committees to function impartially, without bias or personal differences.

Minister D. Sridhar Babu Calls for New Rules Book and Study Tours

Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu congratulated the chairpersons of the Assembly committees.

He said the Rules Book is the first document given to Assembly members, and the Speaker conducts Assembly proceedings according to its provisions.

The Minister stated that the previous government had changed the Rules Book.

He suggested that committee chairpersons and members should work together to prepare a new Rules Book for the efficient functioning of the Legislative Assembly.

Sridhar Babu also suggested that Assembly committees undertake study tours to other states to examine the rules followed in other Legislative Assemblies and obtain their suggestions.

He said the Ethics Committee plays an important role not only in ensuring that Assembly rules are followed but also in maintaining the dignity of the House.

He added that the committee’s recommendations should be transparent so that Telangana becomes a role model for other states.

Committee Chairpersons Assure Dedicated Service

The chairpersons of the committees said they would work in accordance with the trust placed in them by the Legislative Assembly and strive to uphold the dignity of the House.
