No Cash? Pay by PhonePe: Alleged Digital Extortion Racket by Traffic Police in Patancheru

Allegations of a digital extortion racket involving traffic police personnel have surfaced in the Patancheru area, with local vendors claiming that money is allegedly being collected through third-party QR codes instead of direct cash payments.

Hyderabad: Allegations of a digital extortion racket involving traffic police personnel have surfaced in the Patancheru area, with local vendors claiming that money is allegedly being collected through third-party QR codes instead of direct cash payments.

According to local sources, fruit vendors and other small traders are allegedly asked to make payments through PhonePe or other digital payment platforms. However, instead of transferring money directly to police personnel, the vendors are reportedly instructed to scan QR codes belonging to nearby paan shops.

The allegations have raised questions about the alleged use of third-party businesses to facilitate the collection of money while avoiding direct cash transactions.

Locals have further alleged that some paan shop owners and petrol bunk operators may also be involved in collecting money through digital transactions on behalf of others.
