AIMIM’s Bold Challenge: Can Maharashtra’s Leaders Keep Their Promises After Polls?
During a public rally in Aurangabad, Owaisi addressed the crowd, calling into question the reliability of political “guarantees” increasingly offered by parties across India.
Mumbai: As the Maharashtra Assembly elections approach, AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi intensified his criticism of the Congress and questioned the credibility of promises made by major political parties.
During a public rally in Aurangabad, Owaisi addressed the crowd, calling into question the reliability of political “guarantees” increasingly offered by parties across India.
Highlighting recent trends, Owaisi pointed to examples from states like Telangana, Karnataka, and Haryana, and referenced Prime Minister Modi’s own assurances, to underscore what he sees as an unstable political environment. He challenged Maharashtra’s prominent leaders directly, questioning whether key figures like Sharad Pawar, Ajit Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray, and Eknath Shinde could guarantee their post-election loyalties.

Owaisi’s pointed questions included: “Will Sharad Pawar assure he won’t align with PM Modi post-elections? Can Ajit Pawar promise not to return to Sharad Pawar after the votes are counted? Will Uddhav Thackeray guarantee he won’t rejoin the BJP? And, can Eknath Shinde vow to avoid the Thackeray faction post-election?”
By raising these questions, Owaisi emphasized AIMIM’s stance that the political landscape is marked by shifting allegiances and that voters should be cautious of promises from leaders prone to changing alliances.
Owaisi also criticized Congress’s alliance with Shiv Sena, suggesting it represented a move toward “Hindutva politics.” According to Owaisi, the Congress-Shiv Sena partnership signals a dilution of Congress’s secular values, pushing it closer to a Hindutva-driven agenda.
For the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, AIMIM has fielded 16 candidates across the state, including former Aurangabad MP Imtiaz Jaleel, who is contesting the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad) East seat. AIMIM has also positioned four candidates in the Mumbai region.
With voting scheduled for November 20, the political atmosphere in Maharashtra is charged, with parties vying to secure the trust of a watchful electorate.
