Hyderabad: Hyderabad police have taken legal action against multiple individuals, including businessman KP Vishal Goud, linked to Quthbullapur MLA KP Vivekananda Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), following a suspected hate crime targeting a Muslim man.
The incident involved an attack on an Amazon delivery agent, Sheikh Rehan Fayaz (20), on August 5.
It is reported that the assault occurred after the attackers inquired about Rehan’s name and confirmed his Muslim background, raising concerns about communal harmony and safety in the area.
According to reports, Rehan was dispatched to deliver a package in Jeedimetla. Upon arrival, he was directed to a different location by the customer via WhatsApp. At the new location, Rehan was asked to apologize for a perceived delay and was then asked to show his Aadhar card. This seemingly led to a brutal assault, during which the assailants used cricket bats and stumps, resulting in severe injuries, including fractures to Rehan’s hands and legs.
Amjadullah Khan, spokesperson for Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), alleged that the police initially declined to file a case on the day of the incident and did not promptly take Rehan to a hospital. After seeking medical treatment at a private hospital, Rehan approached MBT for assistance in engaging with the police. The case was eventually registered on August 10, as confirmed by Jeedimetla inspector M Pavan, who denied the accusation of initial neglect by the police. The accused individuals are facing charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including wrongful restraint, causing grievous hurt, and criminal intimidation.
During a press conference, Khan claimed that Vishal Goud has a history of similar offenses and has been accused of assaulting people after confirming their identities.
