Amnesty urges India to stop using excessive force against Muslims

Amnesty International has accused the government of India of selectively and viciously cracking down on Muslims who dare to speak up and peacefully express their dissent against the discrimination faced by them. Amnesty International is a Non-Governmental & Nonprofit Organization, which defends human rights around the world.

In a tweet the international body writes, “The Government of India is selectively and viciously cracking down on Muslims who dare to speak up and peacefully express their dissent against the discrimination faced by them.”

It urged India to put an end to the excessive use of force in response to large scale protests in the country that has resulted in the death of at least 2 people. In another tweet it opines, “Indian authorities must immediately put an end to the excessive use of force in response to large scale protests in the country that has resulted in the death of at least 2 people, including a child, and in many others suffering injuries since last Friday.”

The Amnesty called for protection of right to peaceful protest.

It expressed worry over targeting of Muslims stating, “Presenting and treating all protesters, including peaceful ones, as a threat for public order is deeply worrying and is part of an alarming escalation of the states’ measures targeting Muslims”

Photos and videos of crackdown on Indian Muslims have been widely shared by twitter users.
