On Thursday night, a significant explosion rocked Kou Sudan Street in Syria, close to Sayyida Zainab’s mausoleum, resulting in a tragic incident. The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that at least six individuals lost their lives, and 23 others sustained injuries. The targeted location was the town of Asayda Zainab in the Damascus countryside. Media reports indicated that the explosion was caused by a car that detonated near a taxi on Kou Sudan Street in Sayyida Zainab.
Following the incident, the Syrian Interior Ministry promptly responded to the scene, launching rescue operations and providing aid to the injured. The wounded were rushed to hospitals for treatment, and investigations into the matter are currently underway. According to the authorities, the explosion occurred in close proximity to a parked taxi near the revered Syeda Zainab mausoleum, which is Syria’s most renowned Shia shrine. The government has labeled this incident as a terrorist attack.
Witnesses recounted hearing a loud blast, which led to panic among the people present. Immediate medical assistance was sought, and security forces promptly cordoned off the area to secure it. The explosion is said to have occurred near a security building, slightly away from the tomb of Syeda Zainab, who was the granddaughter of Prophet Muhammad and daughter of Hazrat Imam Ali.
