Court sends Zubair to 14-day judicial custody

Prosecution sources said Zubair was produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate after being charged with various offences.

Agra (UP): A court in Hathras in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday sent co-founder of Alt News Mohammad Zubair to 14 days judicial custody on charges of spreading enmity and hurting religious sentiments.

Prosecution sources said Zubair was produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate after being charged with various offences.

The Uttar Pradesh government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the cases filed Zubair lodged in different districts of the state.

Inspector General of Police (Prison) Pritinder Singh has been appointed the Chairman of the SIT.

A total of six cases are lodged against Zubair in Uttar Pradesh including two in Hathras and one each in Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Ghaziabad and Muzaffarnagar.

Earlier, Zubair was remanded to 14 days judicial custody by a court in Lakhimpur Kheri in connection with a case lodged against him on charges of allegedly promoting enmity among groups on Monday.

The FIR against him was lodged by the district President of Hindu Sher Sena.
