C. V. Anand, Director General of Police, Telangana, warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone attempting to disturb peace, public order, and communal harmony during the forthcoming Bakrid festival across the State. The Telangana Police have intensified measures to prevent illegal cattle transportation, communal tension, and violations of law ahead of the festival scheduled later this month.

The DGP conducted a video conference on Wednesday with Police Commissioners and Superintendents of Police from all districts along with senior officials from various departments to review Bakrid festival security arrangements and law and order measures.
Telangana Police Hold High-Level Bakrid Security Review

The DGP stated that, based on decisions taken during review meetings chaired by the Hon’ble Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, police officers were instructed to strictly prevent illegal transportation and trafficking of cattle during Bakrid.
DGP Orders Strict Enforcement of Cow Slaughter Act and Animal Transport Rules
DGP C.V. Anand directed officers to strictly enforce:
- Cow Slaughter Act, 1977
- Transport of Animals Rules, 1978
- Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960
He warned that stringent legal action would be initiated against individuals violating cattle transportation rules during the festival period.
The DGP said Bakrid is a sensitive festival from a law and order perspective and stressed the need for heightened vigilance to prevent communal clashes or tension between groups.
52 Interstate Check Posts, 203 Check Posts Across Telangana
The Telangana Police informed that:
- 52 inter-state check posts have been established along the borders of:
- Chhattisgarh
- Karnataka
- Maharashtra
- Andhra Pradesh
- A total of 203 check posts have been set up across Telangana to curb illegal cattle smuggling.
Officials were instructed to intensify vehicle checking in suspicious areas and maintain surveillance at cattle fairs likely to be held during the next 15 days.
Verification of Cattle Transport Documents Ordered
The DGP instructed officers to thoroughly verify:
- “Fit for Transport” certificates
- “Fit for Slaughter” certificates
at all check posts.
He ordered uninterrupted checking operations until the completion of the Bakrid festival.
Warning to Qureshi Associations and Cow Protection Groups
DGP C.V. Anand warned that no individual or organization should take law into their own hands.
He advised members of Qureshi associations and cow protection groups not to create confrontation situations or road blockades based merely on suspicion regarding cattle transportation.
The DGP made it clear that criminal cases would be registered against violators, and rowdy sheets or suspect sheets would also be opened wherever necessary.
Social Media Monitoring Intensified
The Telangana DGP directed officers to maintain strict surveillance on social media platforms during the festival period.
He warned that people posting provocative or misleading content online would be identified, summoned to police stations, and dealt with according to law.
Departments Asked to Coordinate Closely
The DGP stressed coordination between:
- Police Department
- Municipal Administration Department
- Animal Husbandry Department
- Revenue Department
Officials were instructed to create special WhatsApp groups at district and field levels for effective communication and information sharing.
The DGP also instructed officials to arrange adequate cattle shelters for seized animals and ensure fodder and water facilities.
Senior Officials Emphasize Strict Enforcement
Special Chief Secretary (MA&UD) Jayesh Ranjan said municipal officials are on high alert ahead of Bakrid and stressed strict implementation of the Cow Slaughter Act, Transport Act, and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Animal Husbandry Secretary K. Ilambarthi said veterinary doctors are being made available to issue necessary certificates for cattle transportation and would remain available round the clock wherever required.
