A serious incident at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC), Shimla has sparked widespread outrage after a 36-year-old patient alleged that he was assaulted by two doctors during a medical visit. What Happened at IGMC Shimla?
The patient, identified as Arjun Singh, a resident of Kapvi village in Shimla district, had visited IGMC for a bronchoscopy test at the Pulmonary Medicine Department. Arjun Singh runs a canteen at a well-known boarding school in Shimla and is undergoing treatment for a lung-related condition.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred after the medical procedure when the patient was advised to take rest due to breathing difficulty.

Allegations Against Two Doctors
Arjun Singh has filed a formal police complaint alleging physical assault by two doctors, including Senior Resident Doctor Raghu Nerula.
As per the complaint:
- The patient lay down on a bed in the pulmonary ward after the test
- Two doctors arrived and allegedly behaved rudely
- When the patient objected, the situation escalated
- One doctor allegedly held the patient’s legs
- The other reportedly punched him repeatedly on the face
- The patient suffered heavy bleeding following the assault
Family and Friends Stage Protest
After the alleged assault, family members and friends gathered in large numbers inside the IGMC campus and raised slogans demanding the immediate arrest of the accused doctors.
Protesters warned that they would launch an indefinite sit-in protest inside the institute if strict action was not taken.
Police Confirm Complaint, Probe Underway
Confirming the complaint, Sub-Inspector Dilip Kumar, the investigating officer, said that police have registered the case and initiated an investigation.

Doctor Denies Allegations

Eyewitness Account from Patient’s Friend
Arjun Singh’s friend Viju Pal said they reached IGMC around 11 am for the procedure. After the test, a nurse advised rest due to breathing discomfort.
He alleged that while Arjun was resting in the ward, the doctors entered, behaved rudely, and later assaulted him, leading to serious injuries and bleeding.
Security Tightened at Hospital
Following the incident:
