Gyanvapi: Hindu seer ends fast but may move SC

Varanasi: Head of Sri Vidya Mutt Swami Avimukteshwaranand called off after four days on Wednesday his indefinite fast over not being allowed to pray at the Shivling-like structure discovered at the Gyanvapi mosque’s wuzukhana.
His followers said Avimukteshwaranand broke his fast after 108 hours. He began fasting immediately after being stopped from visiting the Gyanvapi mosque on June 4.
The seer’s guru Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati directed him to end his fast and Swami Avimukteshwaranand said that he will follow the instructions of his guru.
Avimukteshwaranand has lost around five kg weight during fasting, his followers said. Avimukteshwaranand said now he will launch a nationwide campaign for worshipping lord Adi Visheshwara located in the Gyanvapi mosque complex.
The head of the Sri Vidya Mutt sat on the indefinite fast after being stopped from going to Gyanvapi mosque complex by police in front of his Vidya Mutt on June 4. He has been under house restriction inside the monastery since.
On Tuesday, Avimukteshwaranand said he would send an application to the District Magistrate to know under which provision of the law he has been kept under house arrest.
Avimukteshwaranand claimed his indefinite fast crossed 93 hours without food or water. He also demanded permission to perform worship and serve food to the deity Adi Visheshwara.
The head of Vidya Mutt said if he was not satisfied with the administration’s response then he would move the Supreme Court. He expressed unhappiness with the heavy police presence around Sri Vidya Mutt.
