Heroin Worth Rs 2 cr Seized, Two Women Arrested in Meghalaya

A police official said the two women, whose identities are yet to be revealed, had been trafficking large consignments of heroin in the region for the past several years.

Shillong: Meghalaya police arrested two women drug smugglers and seized heroin weighing around 1.116 kg, the biggest single drug seizure in recent times, worth Rs 2 crore from their possession in Madanriting area here, police said on Monday.

A police official said the two women, whose identities are yet to be revealed, had been trafficking large consignments of heroin in the region for the past several years.

On being tip-off about that an illegal consignment of narcotic drugs was being delivered to a person staying at Madanrting, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force of East Khasi Hills district conducted a house search at the residence of the suspect in the presence of independent witnessed on November 6.

“During the search, 101 soapboxes (66 soap boxes kept inside a purple colour bag and 35 soap boxes kept inside a carton box) were recovered. All the soap boxes contained heroin which was confirmed by a preliminary test,” Sylvester Nongtnger, the district police chief of East Khasi Hills, said.

He said the seized heroin weighing around 1.116 Kg was smuggled from Myanmar.
“We are still interrogating the two arrested persons and a manhunt is on to nab the others,” Nongtnger said.
