Hyderabad Grapples with Soaring Onion Prices Amidst Supply-Demand Disparity

Hyderabad: In just a few weeks, Hyderabad has witnessed a twofold increase in onion prices, attributed to a mismatch in supply and demand, largely influenced by delayed monsoon rains leading to reduced supply. Previously priced at Rs. 20-25 per kilogram, onions are now being sold at Rs. 40-45 in the city.

A few months ago, Hyderabad experienced a surge in tomato prices, reaching Rs. 200 per kg in July due to heavy rainfall in Telangana. However, they later dropped significantly after a few weeks due to a sharp decline in sales.

During that period, people in Hyderabad shifted their focus away from tomatoes and towards other vegetables.

With onion prices expected to stabilize only after November, it remains to be seen how consumers will react to the increased rates in Hyderabad.
