Speaking to the media, the DCP Golconda revealed key actions taken during the Hyderabad Operation Safe School drive:
- Total Cases Registered: 96
- Additional 2 cases booked later after inspecting shops whose owners were initially absent
- Tobacco products seized from multiple shops
- Cases booked under relevant legal provisions, including Section 271 BNS
He said the raids were carried out in phases to ensure complete coverage.
Strict Action Against Shops Near Schools
The police emphasized:
- Shops located within 100 yards/meters of schools are under strict monitoring
- Coordination is underway with GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) to shift or regulate such shops
- Notices are being issued to shopkeepers regarding compliance
Focus on Preventing Tobacco Access to Students
As part of Operation Safe School Hyderabad, DCP highlighted:
- Strict instructions to prevent sale of tobacco to underage students
- Special focus on students below 18 years
- Action will be taken if any violations are found
DCP stated that no major complaints have been received so far regarding students purchasing such products, but vigilance remains high.
Seized Material to Be Produced in Court
- Seized tobacco products have been packaged and submitted as evidence
- Items will be deposited in court
- Further action will be taken after obtaining destruction orders from the court
