Hyderabad: Woman loses baby as Chaderghat hospital staff join pre-wedding function

Hyderabad: A woman lost her baby as the staff of a private hospital at Chaderghat allegedly left her in labour and went to celebrate the ‘bride to be’ function of one of the family members of the hospital owner. Due to delay in attending, the baby died in the woman’s womb.

On the basis of the complaint lodged by woman’s husband, Chaderghat police registered a case against the hospital. P Sateesh, Inspector of Chaderghat told that investigation is underway.

According to details, Syed Arif’s wife Suraiaya Fatima, 24, was being treated at Imtiyaz Hospital at Malakpet, for pregnancy. She was admitted to hospital as she was nearing delivery. During night, she developed labour pains and her family members went to inform the hospital staff, but none of them including doctors were present on the hospital premises. The New Indian Express reported.

Suraiaya’s family alleged that later they learnt that all the doctors and the staff were at a party organised to celebrate the ‘bride-to-be’ function of the hospital owner’s grand-daughter on the top floor of the hospital building. Her family blamed the staff for baby’s death saying that as the patient was not attended on time, the baby died in the womb.

However, denying the allegations, sources from the hospital said that the patient was attended to on time and proper treatment was given as per protocol. They claimed that the baby died because clots were formed in the patient’s body and her condition started deteriorating.

Agitated family members manhandled the hospital staff. After much persuasion in presence of police, the family agreed to a surgery. The patient was operated upon, and clots and the foetus were removed.
