HYDRAA Says Lake Restoration Will Improve Groundwater and Living Conditions
The Commissioner said that lakes restored by HYDRAA have not only helped reduce monsoon flood problems but have also contributed to an increase in groundwater levels.
He stated that plastic waste is being removed from Nacharam Lake and expressed confidence that groundwater levels in the area would improve after the restoration.
AV Ranganath further said that local residents had been facing problems due to sewage water, foul smell, and mosquitoes. He said the restoration of the lake would resolve these issues and create a pleasant environment for the surrounding community.
Nagireddy Kunta in Yapral Also to Be Developed
The HYDRAA Commissioner also announced that Nagireddy Kunta in Yapral, Medchal-Malkajgiri district, will be developed.
On Thursday, AV Ranganath conducted a field inspection after local residents complained about encroachments within the Full Tank Level (FTL) area of the lake. Residents also alleged that some people had encroached upon nearby government land.
Locals informed the Commissioner that the flood canal connecting Nagireddy Kunta to Oora Cheruvu had been diverted, resulting in flooding. They said residential areas between the two lakes as well as upstream localities were getting submerged during heavy rains.
Residents also stated that, apart from the diversion of the canal, encroachments had reduced the width of the nala, worsening the flooding problem.
Taking serious note of the complaints, Commissioner AV Ranganath directed HYDRAA officials to immediately resolve the issue.
