IMD Issues Rain Alert for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Southwest Monsoon Gains Strength

The IMD has issued a rain alert for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as the southwest monsoon strengthens, bringing thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over the next three days.

Hyderabad: The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as the southwest monsoon remains active and surface cyclonic circulation continues to influence weather conditions in the Telugu states.

According to the latest weather report issued on Friday, rains are likely to continue in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for the next three days.

The report stated that conditions are becoming favourable for the further advance of the Southwest Monsoon into more parts of the Southeast Arabian Sea, Comorin area, remaining parts of the Southwest and Southeast Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, and additional parts of the East-Central Bay of Bengal during the next two to three days.

Surface Trough and Cyclonic Circulation Influencing Weather

The Meteorological Department stated that the trough extending from East Uttar Pradesh to the Odisha coast continued on Thursday.

On Friday, the cyclonic circulation extended from Northwest Uttar Pradesh to East Uttar Pradesh across East Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh over the Interior Odisha region.

According to the report, the system continues at an altitude of 1.5 km above mean sea level.

The trough extending from the Central Bay of Bengal and Southwest Bay of Bengal to Tamil Nadu weakened on Friday.

Telangana Likely to Receive Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds

Under the influence of these weather systems, light to moderate rains are likely at isolated places in several districts of Telangana today and tomorrow.

The Meteorological Department said dry weather conditions may prevail the day after tomorrow.

According to the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre:

  • Light to moderate rain is likely in isolated districts of Telangana
  • Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected
  • Gusty winds may also occur
  • Maximum temperatures are likely to remain almost unchanged for the next two days

Rain Forecast for Andhra Pradesh and Yanam

The Meteorological Department stated that under the influence of the surface trough, thunderstorms are likely in many districts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam today and tomorrow.

The department warned that:

  • Severe heat wave conditions may prevail at one or two places
  • Warm night conditions are also likely
  • Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning may occur at isolated places

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are also expected at isolated places in:

  • South Coastal Andhra Pradesh
  • Rayalaseema

Strong winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph are also likely in affected regions.

Southwest Monsoon Advancing Further

The weather department said the southwest monsoon is currently active and conditions are favourable for its further advancement across several regions over the coming days.
