Arshad Madani Says Violence in Name of Cow Protection Must Stop
During his speech, Arshad Madani questioned why people were being killed in the name of cows.
He said:
“Why are people being killed in the name of the cow? You say cows should not be slaughtered. I say, taking one step further, cows should not be slaughtered, and must be declared National Animal.”
Madani said that just as the peacock has been declared India’s national bird, the cow should similarly be declared the national animal because of its religious significance for Hindus.
Madani Calls for Action Against All Involved in Cow Slaughter
Arshad Madani stated that action should not target only weak and helpless people.
He said:
- Those who sell cows should also be treated as offenders
- Those who buy cows should also be treated as offenders
- Those who slaughter cows should also be treated as offenders
- Those who consume cow meat should also be treated as offenders
Madani added:
“We are with you. Why don’t you do this?”
Remarks on Violence Against Harijan Community
During the speech, Arshad Madani also referred to incidents involving members of the Harijan community.
He alleged that people belonging to the Harijan community were attacked for handling the skin of dead cows and questioned whether anyone was held accountable.
Demand to Declare Cow as National Animal
Madani repeatedly demanded that the cow should be declared a national animal, similar to the peacock being India’s national bird.
He said:
“We demand that the cow should be made the national animal.”
He further stated that strict punishment should be imposed wherever cruelty against cows takes place.
Madani also appealed to people present at the gathering to support the demand and help convey it to the government.
