Indian Idol fame Farmani Naaz triggered a controversy for singing a Shiv Bhajan for her audience. The Ulema of Deoband got furious over the YouTube based singer’s recent release ‘Har Har Shambhu.’ ‘Har Har Shambhu’ is a devotional song on the theme of Kanwar Yatra.
Deoband cleric slammed the singer calling her behaviour ‘against Islam.’ Mufti Arshad Qasmi said in Islam, singing and dancing are illegal. He also advised Naaz to seek ‘tauba’ (apology) from Allah.
However, Naaz claimed that an artist has no religion and he/she is likely to lend voice to all kinds of melodies adding that she remained unaffected by objections.
This is not the first time Farmani Naaz has sung a religious song. Earlier, she was also spotted singing ‘Ghumungi Hardiwar’, a song attributed to a Hindu religious site.
Naaz, who sings devotional songs and qawwalis, is a resident of Muzaffarnagar.
