Insects, frogs found in hostel food, RGUKT students stage protest

Triple IT students complained that the quality of food provided to them was very poor. Many times, insects and frogs were also found in the hostel food.

Students of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge and Technologies (RGUKT) Basar, today continued their protest for the second day in a row. The students of this educational institution of Basar, called Triple IT, staged a sit-in in front of the main gate of the building, calling for fulfilling their long pending demands.

Students have been protesting for the last two days against the supply of substandard food. Their other demands include improvement of basic amenities and appointment of a permanent vice chancellor.

Braving the rain, scores of students continued their protest for the second day on Wednesday. The students were carrying placards on which their 12 demands and slogans supporting them were written.

The students requested Telangana Chief Minister Chandra Shekhar Rao and IT Minister Tarak Rama Rao to personally visit the institution and look into the problems faced by the students.Police had made elaborate arrangements to monitor the situation.

Police remained vigilant to prevent outside students from entering the campus. Triple IT students complained that the quality of food provided to them was very poor. Many times, insects and frogs were also found in the hostel food.

“There is no provision of clean drinking water for the students in the college. In this regard, we have repeatedly drawn attention of the concerned authorities but to no avail.” A student leader informed adding that the students had vowed to continue protesting until their demands are met.

Meanwhile, Education Minister P Sabita Indira Reddy said that she would convene a meeting with the Vice Chancellor and assured that she would try to resolve all issues.
