Kaleshwaram Project Now Provides Irrigation Water to 2 Lakh Acres: BRS

Telangana: The Kaleshwaram project, which was previously criticised by the Congress government as having collapsed and its reverse pumping system being a wasteful exercise, is now being used to supply irrigation water to farmers, according to the BRS.

The BRS alleged that the Congress government had earlier campaigned against the reverse pumping system of the Kaleshwaram project. However, the government is now using the same method to lift water through the Rampur Pump House on the SRSP Flood Flow Canal.

According to the party, motors at the Rampur Pump House have been switched on to lift and divert water, enabling irrigation water to reach agricultural lands in the command area.

The BRS claimed that Godavari water is being lifted through the Kaleshwaram project’s pump houses and pushed into the SRSP Flood Flow Canal through reverse pumping.

The party further claimed that the water supply is benefiting an irrigation command area of around 2 lakh acres, providing relief to farmers dependent on irrigation facilities.

The development has also triggered a political debate, with the BRS using the current water supply to question the Congress government’s earlier criticism of the Kaleshwaram project and its reverse pumping mechanism.
