Hyderabad: G Kishan Reddy, President of the Telangana BJP unit and Union Minister, has called on the state government to initiate an inquiry into allegations of corruption and irregularities during the tenure of the BRS government.
Addressing the media at the party’s state headquarters on Tuesday, Reddy pointed out that the Congress had consistently raised concerns about corruption while in opposition. Even Revanth Reddy had stated that if the Congress came to power, they would investigate scandals and scams related to BRS government projects.
Reddy highlighted the extravagant claims made by BRS leaders about the Kaleswaram project, stating that the use of concrete and steel was exaggerated. He questioned the fate of the funds spent on the project, particularly in light of the collapse of the Medigadda barrage, a crucial component of the Kaleswaram project.
“On October 21, 2023, the pillars of the Medigadda Barrage were found to have shrunk,” Reddy noted. Subsequently, a letter was sent to the Union Hydropower Minister, leading to the formation of a high-level committee by the National Dam Safety Authority to investigate the incident.
The National Dam Safety Authority revealed that the BRS government had not conducted proper soil tests during the construction of the barrage. Reddy accused the government of keeping project details secret to conceal incompetence and irregularities.
Despite calls for a CBI inquiry, Reddy criticised the KCR government for refusing permission for investigations by the central agency. He questioned the Congress government’s stance on investigating corruption in the Kaleswaram project.
Reddy also raised suspicions about a possible understanding between the former and present chief ministers, facilitated by the MIM party. He called on the Congress government to live up to its promises of transparency and order a CBI investigation into the alleged corruption during the BRS regime.
