Hyderabad: Mehmood Pracha, a well-known Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court, has initiated the “Mission Save Constitution and Waqf Properties” in Telangana. This movement has received extensive backing from local communities, as well as individuals across the nation and abroad.
The primary objective of this campaign is to safeguard waqf properties, and Mehmood Pracha, along with a dedicated group of supporters, is determined to pursue legal and grassroots actions until their goal is achieved.
To strengthen and advance this movement, Mahmood Paracha embarked on a two-day visit to Hyderabad.
On Friday, June 16, 2023, Mehmood Pracha commenced a survey of waqf properties in Hyderabad, starting with a visit to Chilla Moula Ali in Panjagutta. This ancient sanctuary, which originally spanned 12,000 square yards, has suffered encroachments from all sides, resulting in limited access and unlawful structures surrounding it.
According to sources, Pracha, during the visit, held discussions with the Mutawalli (caretaker), and met with representatives of the Shia community. He thoroughly examined the waqf documents and criticized the encroachments, deeming them illegal and holding the Waqf Board accountable.
Considering the substantial number of Shia waqf holdings, Pracha also advocated for the establishment of a separate Shia Waqf Board.
Subsequently, Pracha proceeded to Masjid e Ahle Sunnat in Gun Bazar, Rasoolpura, another waqf property in Hyderabad. This waqf property, in existence for 400 years, encompasses Dargah Khaki Shah and a graveyard. It was officially recognized in the Gazette in 1978. However, encroachments have resulted in the reduction of its original area from 8,760 square yards to 2,500 square yards. The Masjid Committee, led by Secretary Mohd Lateef Khan, has been actively working to maintain the land and has successfully defended its waqf status against those disputing it despite being the original tenants.
The state of the dargah is deplorable, with abandoned vehicles placed on graves by a nearby car mechanic attempting to claim the site. Mehmood Pracha and his team were appalled by this sight. Pracha stated, after reviewing the documents, that a strong case could be constructed and effectively contested. He emphasized that corrupt officials of the Waqf Board would face legal consequences.
On Saturday, June 17, at 7 a.m., Mahmood Paracha will inspect waqf properties that have been encroached upon on the outskirts of the city. Legal proceedings will be initiated against those responsible for the illegal occupation. In the evening, at 5 p.m., he will address a public meeting at Media Plus Gunfoundry in Abids, Hyderabad.
