Hyderabad: Finance and Health Minister Harish Rao has assured that he will bring the issue of housing for journalists to the attention of Chief Minister KCR.

A delegation from the Deccan Journalists Housing Society, including President Bolloju Ravi, Vice President M. Srinivas, Treasurer Chilukuri Ayyappa, Directors Ramakrishna and G. Pratap Reddy, as well as Representatives K. Vikram Reddy, Gaute Devender, Pratibha Devi, Suresh Babu, Premkumar, Bhujender, and others submitted a petition to Minister Harish Rao.

The Minister expressed the government’s positive stance towards addressing the housing needs of journalists. The petition presented by the society’s representatives emphasized the priority of providing housing to journalists.

Minister Harish Rao was made aware that the Cabinet had made a special decision to allocate 23 acres of land for housing journalists in Khammam district, and journalists have already benefited in various other places.

However, the memorandum highlighted that while decisions have been made by Ministers and MLAs in some districts to allocate housing for journalists, the allocation for journalists working in Hyderabad city and at the state level has not been completed.

In response to this, the Deccan Journalist Housing Society was established for the members who hold government accreditation and were not part of any previous housing society.

The petition emphasized that journalists face significant financial challenges due to high rental costs, especially for those who relocate from other districts and regions to work in Hyderabad.

Therefore, the society requested that the Deccan Journalist Housing Society be taken into consideration, given the journalists’ circumstances.

Minister Harish Rao, alongside the representatives, pledged to raise the matter with Chief Minister KCR, indicating a commitment to addressing the housing concerns of journalists in Hyderabad and the state.
