No Hijab Ban in Recruitment Exams, Clarifies Karnataka Government

In a recent development, the Karnataka government has officially stated that there is no ban on wearing hijabs during government board and corporations’ recruitment exams. This clarification comes in response to earlier reports suggesting a ban imposed by the Karnataka Examination Authority on any form of head cover during these exams.

According to India Today, Higher education minister M.C. Sudhakar addressed the issue, emphasizing that the new rules were misconstrued. He clarified that the objective was to combat malpractices, such as cheating with Bluetooth devices, during exams and not to restrict the wearing of hijabs.

Sudhakar pointed out, “In any case, hijabs don’t cover the mouth, so using Bluetooth devices won’t be possible.”

The decision originates from the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government, differing from its predecessor, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government under Basavaraj Bommai. The previous government had implemented a ban on hijabs in educational institutions, sparking widespread protests, outrage, and uncertainty among students.

As the controversy unfolds, AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticize Congress, coining the term “CongRSS” – a fusion of Congress and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh acronym.
