Six-time Congress MLA Mohammed Ali dies

76-year-old Ali was a staunch supporter of A.K. Antony and Oommen Chandy and had represented the Aluva assembly constituency for a record six times starting from 1980 till 2006.

Thiruvananthapuram: Six-time Congress legislator K. Mohammed Ali passed away at a hospital near Aluva on Tuesday, party sources said.

76-year-old Ali was a staunch supporter of A.K. Antony and Oommen Chandy and had represented the Aluva assembly constituency for a record six times starting from 1980 till 2006.

At the 2006 assembly polls, Ali suffered a reversal and lost the polls and after which he quit parliamentary politics.

But in 2021, his son’s wife created a jolt, contesting on a CPI-M ticket lost to sitting Congress legislator Anwar Sadath at Ali’s home constituency.

Ali for a while now was keeping ill health and was staying away from active politics.

The last rites will be held later in the day at his home town Aluva.
